Stewardship and What It Means

With the loss of our church building, the concept of "stewardship" has risen many times. With the beginning of a new year, we are looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us. But in that vein we also need to discern what "stewardship" is. He actual word stewardship does not appear in Scriptures, the concept is replete. God is the owner of everything, we're nothing more than household managers. With that truth in mind we have to look not only how we manage God's finances, but also our time, our priorities and what we consider treasures.

Upon looking over some new material for Sunday school curriculum, I came across Dave Ramsey's courses on the biblical handling of money. It continues to amaze me how little I know of some topics in Scripture. Of course Jesus speaks about the proper handling of responsibilities and even sometimes specifically of money but for some reason the "fertile ground" that is my mind sometimes doesn't allow the seeds of the Lord plants to take hold. One of the phrases that Mr. Ramsey uses is "Imagine what the people of God could do for the kingdom of God if we had our finances under control."so with that thought in the forefront of my mind, and hopefully led by the Holy Spirit we are starting new Sunday school curriculum entitled "Life. Money. Legacy". It is five sermons designed to get a believer's heart in the right place regarding who owns the resources (God) and who is managing it (us). Once that's established then the practical and hands-on tools are provided to take hold of our finances so that the provisions of the Lord is given to us not only meet our needs, the kingdom needs as well. I am so excited about this in the direction that God is bringing us.

The Scripture that Pastor Heckman has cited in regards to our response from the fire is Isaiah 61:3 and it reads "to grant to those who mourn in Zion—    to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning,    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;that they may be called oaks of righteousness,    the planting of the Lordthat he may be glorified."

I pray that God through this study will be giving us a beautiful headdress instead of ashes & the oil of gladness instead of morning.
